The EU must speak with one voice in the Middle East - Interview with the Böll Foundation

Together with Lina Khatib, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme of London's "Chatham House" and Bente Scheller, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin, I discussed the role of the EU in the Middle East.

If the EU succeeds in speaking with one voice, it has an impact, because then it is not only the EU and the EU institutions, but 27 member states that have a lot of economic pressure and therefore a lot of diplomatic power. Libya is a good example of this: the Berlin Libya Conference was supported by all the Member States, and it was somehow successful, but then everything fell apart again because some Member States did not stick to what they had agreed.
