Women to the negotiating tables!

As many women as men! What Ursula von der Leyen wants to achieve for the EU Commission is still being skilfully ignored at other levels. Take the European External Action Service (EEAS), for example: of our 47 embassies, only 11 are run by women. We at Greens/EFA are demanding 50% women by 2024, and we have communicated this to Mrs. Mogherini by letter. Because women belong at the negotiating table!

„The principle of gender equality is a core value of the EU and is enshrined in the EU Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. However, the number of women in middle-management positions and senior management positions in the EEAS does not reflect the correct implementation of this principle. We are particularly concerned by the fact that in middle-management positions in the EEAS, men represent 75% and women 25%, while at the level pof senior management, men account for 87%, while women account for 13% of the workforce.“

The complete letter with all our demands on Mrs. Mogherini can be found here.
