My plenary speech on the fight against impunity for crimes targeting journalists

This week we discussed the issue of impunity for crimes against journalists in plenary. In many countries around the globe governments suppress the voices of journalists and take away the freedom of the press. It doesn’t need a murder to silence journalists. Oftentimes, it’s anti-terror laws like in the Philippines, state interference in Corona coverage like in Tajikistan or the denial of permits like in Belarus.

The EU and its member states must make sure governments cannot get away with attacks on Press Freedom.
