Today on Europe Day the conference on the future of Europe would have begun. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic this is no longer possible. Together with MEPs and other Members of the European Parliament from Berlin and Brandenburg I have therefore written an open letter to the German government: In the second half of this year, the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union begins. It is precisely because of the Corona crisis that the Conference on the Future of Europe is of the utmost relevance, as we face problems that only a strong, democratic and solidary Union can overcome.
The future will not wait! And the new Corona-normal has already caught up with us. The German EU Presidency must therefore ensure that the conference is held.
